Acted for a Japanese multinational corporation in their defence against the claim made by a Malaysian counterparty for goods allegedly had and received. The claim of the Malaysian counterparty was dismissed with costs at trial and on appeal.
Acted for a major insurance company in a personal injury claim in the High Court brought by a passenger of a taxi who was allegedly injured in an accident. Successfully obtained order that the plaintiff should compensate the insurance company's legal costs as the plaintiff had failed to accept the insurance company's offer to settle the matter out of court and had wasted the court's time.
Acted for Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in a suit against a well known UK-based concert organiser for failing to organise what was to have been Singapore's largest-ever entertainment and musical event. Among other things STB sought damages for breach of contract and an account of over S$6 million in sponsorship funds which had been paid to the concert organiser for the event which the concert organiser failed to organise. STB's claim against the concert organiser was allowed both at trial and on appeal.
Acting for Sembawang Shipyard in the recovery of construction, repair and equipment remuneration.
Acting for an international hedge fund in a US$8 million share acquisition put-option dispute involving litigation in Singapore and England.
Acted for the major international bank Credit Lyonnais in the recovery of metal stock warehoused in Singapore arising from the insolvency of international metal trader RBG Resources and a massive international fraud valued by liquidators at US$350 million.
Acted for a subsidiary of an Indonesian group of companies in a claim for over US$200 million by several US-based funds.
Acted for a Panamanian marine fuel supplier in their claim against the owner of a vessel. Successfully obtained a warrant for the arrest of the vessel and applied for a stay of proceedings in favour of the Greek courts.
Acted for the widow and two sons of a prominent businessman in their claim for dependency against the driver of the vehicle who had caused the businessman's death. Successfully litigated the issue of whether a woman who had obtained a provisional order for divorce was still a "wife" and entitled to make a claim of dependency. The award made in this case was one of the largest awards for dependency claims reported in the High Court.
Acted for the main contractors of the Circle Line Project in pre-action discovery and court proceedings brought by a sub-contractor. Successfully applied for a stay of court proceedings in favour of domestic arbitration.
