PROFILE

Norman Ho is a partner in Rodyk & Davidson LLP's Real Estate Practice Group.

Norman, a leader in corporate real estate work, has extensive experience in a wide spectrum of property related transactions, including corporate real estate, collective sales and project development transactions. These include developments, sales, purchases, management, mortgages, securities and various financing schemes. He regularly advises banks and financial institutions, property developers, statutory boards, property consultants, investors and purchasers in real estate matters.

Norman has acted for owners and investors in commercial, retail, residential and resort developments both within and outside Singapore (including United Kingdom, China, Indonesia and Australia). His projects include the development and financing of a major shopping cum office project on Orchard Road and the acquisition of a large commercial building in Singapore's Central Business District (CBD). He acts for major developers in large residential projects, such as the new CBD Marina Bay Residence. He has acted in the acquisition, sale and leaseback of industrial developments (including multi-storey strata buildings at the CBD fringe), involving the Housing Development Board and Jurong Town Corporation. Norman represents many financial institutions in Singapore in their credit facilities (and related security documentation) to small and medium enterprises.

A leader in collective sale transactions, Norman was involved in one of the earliest collective sales as well as one of the largest of such sales in Singapore. He acted for the owners of Farrer Court in the sale of the 618 unit development. To date, he has been instructed to act for owners of almost 200 developments and has successfully completed more than 100 of such transactions. He acted in many of the Strata Titles Board hearings for collective sales in Singapore as well as the first High Court hearing for collective sale.

Norman was selected to make representations to the Select Committee, commissioned by the Singapore Parliament, on amendments to the Land Titles (Strata) Act in 1999 to facilitate collective sales. He was again consulted during a review of en bloc legislation and the ensuing amendments to the Act in 2007.

Norman is one of the co-authors of the authoritative publication of "Halsbury's Laws and Precedents - Land" and contributed to the European Intellectual Property Law Review on The Laws of Copyright in Singapore. A regular in the speaking circuit, he is often invited by The Real Estate Association of Singapore, Institute of Estate Agents, Singapore Institute of Valuers and Surveyors and many companies and financial institutions to give seminars, including in Taiwan and Korea. Norman has been interviewed by Channel News Asia on collective sales and by Radio 93.8 on offshore trusts and wealth management.

Norman has been recognised by Chambers Asia (2009, 2010 and 2011 editions) as a Band 1 Leading Lawyer for Real Estate Work in Singapore. He has been described as being "brilliant with clients and highly responsive - he will always tell you not to do things if he thinks it won't be advantageous" (Chambers Asia 2009) and as having "finely honed skills on tap and impressive focus during a transaction" (Chambers Asia 2010).
