Lawrence Teh is a partner in Rodyk & Davidson LLP's Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group.
Lawrence graduated from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1991. He was admitted as Barrister (Inner Temple) England & Wales in 1992 and as Advocate and Solicitor in Singapore in 1994.
Lawrence deals in a wide scope of commercial cases including shipping, aviation, banking, international trade, construction and engineering, and investment disputes. He appears regularly as leading counsel in the Singapore Courts, in arbitration and mediation sessions.
Lawrence has handled both wet and dry shipping matters in the Singapore Courts and advises major owners, banks and shipyards on all forms of admiralty procedure including enforcement of maritime claims, shipbuilding contracts and disputes, maritime joint ventures, limitation of ship owners' liability, maritime joint ventures, international sale of goods and commodities.
He represents major air carriers in cargo and passenger claims and in commercial disputes including cross border freight forwarding accounting disputes.
Lawrence advises and represents clients in international trade including structured commodity trading, trade finance and logistics disputes. In relation to construction and engineering work, he advises on project planning and risk management issues, very often from inception to completion of the project, and represents owners, consultants and contractors in construction and engineering disputes under standard form and bespoke contracts. He has particular experience in English and Singapore standard form contracts and the respective responsibilities of employers, architects, main contractors and the nominated/domestic subcontractors.
Lawrence experience in banking litigation extends to advising on banking secrecy, letters of credit, drafting and enforcement of first demand guarantees, enforcement of banking facility claims, and mortgage disputes.
Lawrence is the secretary of the Maritime Law Association of Singapore and a vice chairman of the International Bar Association's Maritime & Transport Law Committee. He is the chairman of the Civil Practice Committee of the Law Society of Singapore and the chairman of the sub-committee who drafted the Singapore Law Society's arbitration rules. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
He is named in the International Who's Who for Commercial Litigation and Aviation and is recognised as Leading Lawyer for Shipping, Maritime & Aviation by Asialaw.
