Ng Eng Leng, one of the new hires, acted for one of the biggest M&A transactions involving a Singapore company
SINGAPORE, 4 October 2011 – Rodyk & Davidson is announcing today three new partners who joined its Corporate Finance Practice.
Managing Partner of the firm Mr Philip Jeyaretnam, SC said, “We are extending our regional footprint in step with the increase in our cross-border business. Two-thirds of our corporate practice is cross-border and our new hires are a timely support to further our growth in this area.”
Ng Eng Leng, one of the three hires, has dealt extensively with domestic, regional and cross-border M&A transaction projects for over two decades. Eng Leng acted for Advanced Technology Investment Company LLC in its S$5.6 billion acquisition of Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd in 2009, one of the biggest M&A transactions involving a Singapore company. He also recently acted for certain controlling shareholders of SGX-ST-listed Kim Eng Holdings Limited in their conditional sale of 44.63% of Kim Eng’s issued share capital to Aseam Credit Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malayan Banking Berhad. In connection with this transaction, he also acted for Kim Eng in Aseam’s mandatory cash offer for all remaining ordinary shares in Kim Eng (which valued Kim Eng at approximately S$1.79 billion), as well as in Kim Eng’s subsequent delisting.
Nicholas Chong, another hire, has nearly two decades of local and international experience in corporate and capital markets, having worked in Singapore, Malaysia and London, with a focus on REITs, debt capital markets (both retail and non-retail) and structured products.
He was named as a “Leading Individual” (Band 2) in the Capital Markets category of the Chambers Asia-Pacific and Chambers Global rankings for two years (2010/2011) running and was praised for his “international mindset and thorough approach”. In the 2008/2009 and 2010/2011 editions of The Asia-Pacific Legal 500, he was cited as being “experienced,” “knowledgeable and responsive”.
Chan Wan Hong, the third hire, brings with him 12 years of experience focusing on corporate finance & capital markets, mergers & acquisitions and venture capital investments. He acted for CIMB Bank Berhad and its affiliates in the dual listing - initial public offer and secondary listing - of Malaysia Smelting Corporation Berhad on the Mainboard of the SGX-ST this year. This is the first secondary listing on SGX of a company listed on Bursa Malaysia.
Head of Rodyk’s Corporate Finance Practice, Valerie Ong, in welcoming the new hires added, “With their extensive track record in their respective specialty areas, Eng Leng, Nicholas and Wan Hong will fortify our position in Singapore and the regional markets.
Rodyk was recently named as ASIAN-MENA COUNSEL ‘In House Community Firm of the Year’ (2011) for Banking and Finance in Singapore. Its “corporate expertise” and “its dealings with international companies, as well as Singapore-based businesses” won mention in Chambers Asia 2011.
